Understanding the Apostille

An Apostille is a form of certification that authenticates the validity of public documents, such as birth certificates, marriage licenses, court documents, trademarks, for international use in 117 countries that are part of the 1961 Hague Convention.

In the United States, on a government state level, all 50 states can approve and process an document for an Apostille through the Secretary of State office. The Federal Government authenticates documents through the US Department of State-Office of Authentication.
